About Hariclea Darclée
Hariclea Darclée was born at Brăila în 1860, into Haricli family. His true family name was Hartulary, after his husband. She performed numerous important roles on great stages of the world. On 14th of January 1900 she sang at the premiére of the opera Tosca by Puccini, at Constanzi Theater in Rome. Aria "Vissi darte, vissi damore" (I lived for art, I lived for love) brought a huge success to the Romanian soprano. Soprano is called the artist who sings inside the highest range of the voice.
Since 1995 the "Hariclea Darclée" biennial canto competition takes place at Brăila.
