The Epureni commune in Vaslui county (commune from the former Tutova county) is placed not far away from the municipality of Bîrlad. It must not be confused with Duda Epureni commune, that is placed also in the county of Vaslui, but near Huși.
The estate of the eponym boyar Iepureanu was in the past times very large. A village named Iepureni lies today on the other bank of River Prut, in the Republic of Moldova - locality attested in 1770. On the site of the National Archives of Romania we found several information about Eremie estate from Epureni, Tutova county. In 1908 - 1912 the Epureni estate was the private property of Dimitrie and Suzana Eremie (or Eremia). After 1918 the land reform came to pass, so that the land was expropriated by the state. Between WW1 and WW2 Suzana Eremia had a forest in Epureni.
Probably these tokens were in use before WW1.
The tokens pictures are present on this page through the kind permission of Mr. Marian Bolum.
