The Triumphal Arch in Bucharest was raised between 1935 and 1936. Work of architect Petre Antonescu, the Triumphal Arch bears sculptures of Ion Jalea (who also engraved coins), Corneliu Medrea, Frederic Storck, Constantin Baraschi and others. The Arch was dedicated to the heroes of the first World War, also called the Great Recompletion War.
These tokens, struck to raise funds necessary for the construction of these monumnets, are by far closer to medals than to coins. It should be noted that the image on the token is rather a symbolic one.
The 10 lei Triumphal Arch token pictures above are present on this page through the kind permission of Mr. Mircea Jar.
