About Societatea Anonimã Românã de Telefoane (Romanian Anonymous Telephone Society)
The Romanian Anonymous Telephone Society was founded in 1930 with American capital - 8 million dolars lent by the International Telephone and Telegraph Corporation (IT&T) in New York. The American concession ceased in 1941. This Society is responsible for installing the first automatic telephone centrals (no human operators). In 1939 the intercity telephone network had 130,758 km of wire compared to 51,853 km in 1930. In 1939 SART recorded 248.9 million telephone calls. SART was nationalized in 1948.
These tokens were used in the interwar period, during and probably for a short period immediately after the war.
