About the architectural ensemble of the Crowning Cathedral from Alba Iulia
The Orthodox cathedral from Alba Iulia was built in 1921-1922. Here took place in 1922 the crowning ceremony of king Ferdinand and of queen Marie as sovereigns of Greater Romania.
Nowadays here is the siege of the archbishopric of Alba Iulia. The cathedral is surnamed Coronation Cathedral of Cathedral of the Recompletion. The frescoes inside the church were painted by Costin Petrescu.
The crowning event itself was held in the courtyard of the architectural ensemble, on an ad hoc stage. Ferdinand crowned himself with the Steel Crown of Romania, then he crowned the queen. The crown prepared for queen Marie had previously been hallowed by metropolitan Miron Cristea.
Alba Iulia, former capital city of the Principality of Transylvania between 1542 and 1690, hosted the Great National Assembly on 1st of December 1918, when the Romanians from Transylvania voted the Union with Romania.
