Baptism tokens are proofs that baptism has taken place, usually comprizing the name of the child and the names of the godparents, sometimes accompanied by religious scenes. Such medallions were distributed to participants to a baptism ceremony as keepsake and remembrance. They can be looked at also as genealogy documents. The custom of baptism tokens at the Romanian people dates back apparently from the 19th century.

Pictures of the first baptism token on the page are originated on E-bay. Constantin George Manu (1871 - 1959), descendent of the old boyar family Manu, was a Romanian diplomat, minister plenipotentiary of Romania în Great Britain (1911 - 1912) and Ottoman Empire (1912 - 1916). He was son of Romanian general and politician Gheorghe I. Manu (1833 - 1911) and of Alexandrina Manu. His godfather could be Constantin Cantacuzino (1793 - 1877), kaymakam of Wallachia in 1848-1849.

All other baptism tokens pictures are present on this page through the kind permission of Mr. Marian Bolum.
