In 1771, the first two blast furnaces (called "Josephus" and "Franziskus") and a forge began operating in Reșița. Since then, the metallurgical and machine-building plants in Reșița have developed almost continuously and it is believed that they have never stopped (fully) since the early beginnings to the present day. As a result, in 2024, the locals celebrated - with pride - 253 years of unquenched fire in Reșița.

During the interwar period, the company "Uzinele de Fier și Domeniile Reșița" (Iron Works and Reșița Domains) operated. This was, of course, nationalized in 1948 by the communist regime.

In 1962 the name became "Uzina Constructoare de Mașini Reșița" (Machine Building Plant Reșița), which changed in 1973 to "Întreprinderea de Construcții de Mașini" (Machine Building Enterprise) [1]. It should be noted that on a service card from UCM Reșița dating from 1977 (on sale on "Okazii.ro" sales website in 2024) it is written: "Uz. de Construcții de Mașini" (Machine Building Plant).

In 2024, "Uzina Constructoare de Mașini Reșița S.A." (Reșița Machine Building Plant S.A.) was purchased by "Uzina de Construcții Mașini Hidroenergetice S.R.L." (Hydroenergetic Machine Building Plant LLC, established in 2024, and owned by Hidroelectrica, a Romanian state-owned company) [2].

Numerous locomotives were built in Reșița (the first in 1872, steam-powered, called Resicza). Also here, at "Întreprinderea Constructoare de Mașini Reșița" (Reșița Machine Building Enterprise), the first Romanian steam turbine was built - AP 3 - which entered service in 1953 [3].

Considering the inscription UCM on the token, it could have been used after 1962.
