After [1], A. Koppel token would have been used by the Arthur Koppel S.A. Locomotive Factory, based in Bucharest.
Arthur Koppel (1851 - 1908) was an engineer from Germany. The company Orenstein & Koppel dealt with mechanical engineering, being specialized in locomotives, wagons and railway constructions. Another of Koppel's firms was Arthur Koppel & Co. In the Yearbook of Bucharest for 1906 (Anuarul Bucureștilor pe anul 1906, comprising the companies of all merchants and industrialists in the capital city of Romania) Arthur Koppel appears in several categories: wagons, locomotives, industrial machines, rails and vegetable oils.
In L'Independènce Roumaine of May 30 (old style) 1899 - a French-language newspaper from Bucharest) Arthur Koppel appears in an advertisement as having a factory on Strada Viilor no. 17, as well as permanent storage of rails, railway sleepers, wagons, locomotives, etc.
If the drawing on the token is indeed a wine barrel, then the association of this piece with the industrialist Arthur Koppel should rest in doubt. The wine barrel might be a good symbol for a winery, bodega, liquor warehouse, or something similar, and not at all for a mechanical engineering firm.
The inscription BUN PENTRU meaning GOOD FOR makes a direct reference to the 1920s, when silver coins began to be replaced by pieces made of base metals but inscribed with this message.
