Eleven Years on Web |
In July 2013 Romanian coins has reached 11 years of presence on the Internet. We want to thank to all those who, during this long period, helped us with images of coins and with numismatic information. Due to the chronic lack of time and to the small or big everyday troubles, we still have not finished yet to use all the material received, and we resent that.
Several years ago, in October 2009, the site was moved from the deceased Geocities, where it had been hosted for a long time, to its own domain, romaniancoins.org. The moving has caused us some tons of headaches, the loss of the links so laboriously collected over time, and a short partial absence from the results provided by Google.
Since 2010 new images displayed on the site were destructively marked with the website address. This policy change in picture posting had two root causes. On one hand the sprouting of some individuals who basically cloned large parts of our site and on the other the fact that various site images had been used in various auctions on Okazii.ro and E-bay in order to deceive buyers. Quite often unscrupulous dealers posted in auctions our photos of high quality coins as supposed pictures of their lesser quality stuff to be sold.
The site traffic information provided by Yahoo shows that you, the people, visit about 2000 pages daily, that would build up to around 60-70000 per month. Since the moving of the site in October 2009 over to this day something over 2,900,000 pages were shown. We became millionairs (in diplayed pages :) ) thanks to you all!
Romanian coins had some positive echoes in the last 11 years. That is why we strive to provide day by day, year by year, to readers worldwide free information about Romanian numismatics!
Five Years on the Web: the Summary |
First of all we want to thank from the bottom of our hearts to all our collaborators. Without their help, the site could not have been so large and so full of good quality pictures and information. Some other Messrs also donated pictures and although they wanted to remain anonymous we thank them nevertheless. Given the weakness specific to the human nature, we did not manage - yet - to use all the pictures received, and in consequence we pray all such senders for their forgiveness.
Drawing up this tiny word, we had a surprise: statistics show that during Year V RC (meaning the fifth year of existence for Romanian coins) we have been visited about as often as during the first four years taken together.
In five years we overcame a million page visits. So here we are millionaires! For now just in pages shown, not yet in the new Romanian currency (new "lions"), and hope soon to become is scarce. The million pages is a good start!
Between August 3rd 2006 and August 2nd 2007, the Geocities statistics revealed the delivery of 472.475 pages bearing the already known Romanian coins logo (1.000.768 pages in five years)! The main page gathered 10.285 hits (30.879 in five years). The most visited pages (according to Geocities statistics) are:
- Romanian selection page: 22.451 visits (54.351 in five years);
- English selection page: 5875 visits (20.320 in five years);
- site map: 2830 visits (7946 in five years);
- list of Romanian coins: 3403 visits (9913 in five years);
- History page in English: 687 visits (3580 in five years);
- Heraldry page in English : 1455 visits (6488 in five years).
Your interest in Romanian coins is our treasure, and we expect you to keep on collecting them, keep on clicking and keep on making us even richer!
Thank you!
Sincerely,
A team of Romanian millionaires.
Four Years on the Web: the Summary |
First of all we want to thank from the bottom of our hearts to all our collaborators. Without their help, the site could not have been so large and so full of good quality pictures and information. In the fourth year of its life, Romanian coins was improved due to the kind help of the following Messrs, also many others did eagerly their share in contributing to our on-going project:
Radu Lissner
Lucian Solcan
Áron Kovács
Cătălin Gavrilă
Lazăr Florin
Adrian Popovici
Bogdan Costin.
Some other Messrs also donated pictures, but they want to remain anonymous. We thank them too.

The Resumé of the Third Year on the Web |
We want to thank all our collaborators from the bottom of our hearts. Their help was decisive in the strivings to keep the site up to the expectancies of our exigent visitors and of course atop the search engines, and that for almost every key-word related to Romanian numismatics. In the third year of its life, Romanian coins was improved with quality pictures and accurate information. This is greatly due to the kind help of the following Messrs, yet so many others did eagerly their share in contributing to our on-going project:
Alex Lazarovici
Bogdan Costin
Csorik Janos
Clark Smith
Cătălin Gavrilă
Radu Lissner
Mata Baciu Cezar
Lazăr Florin
Áron Kovács
J. M.
Adrian Popovici.
The contribution of anyone, no matter the nature or size of it, was welcome and honored us greatly.
In this third year the free web space provided by Geocities - that seemed to be huge 36 months ago - became too narrow for the development of Romanian coins. We worked hard in order to save even the tiny kilos we could spare while not making any compromises in which concerned picture quality. In addition to this painful issue, the traffic limit was reached annoyingly often causing even more distress.
The tokens were banished to another web space, on the new site Romanian tokens. They felt mistreated, but we assure them that their sacrifice was not in vain. The displacement of the tokens allowed us to introduce the pictures of coin edges as a precious add on.
The ancient coins followed the tokens' good example, making their way to a new address, Romanian ancient coins, a place where they can thrive without crowding the Romanian modern coins, that remained our favorite domain through the ages. Introduced for the first time on Romanian coins on September 2003, the ancient coins struck on the Romanian territory gathered a total of 13.699 hits already.
The third year of site existence meant chiefly - we strongly believe this - refining the information offered. We had a number of mistakes corrected - that is it. Last yet not least, this latter year we lived the great trifling and futile exploit of the denominalizing the Romanian currency.
Between August 3rd 2004 and August 2nd 2005, the Geocities statistics revealed the delivery of 149.463 pages bearing the already known Romanian coins logo! The main page gathered 6.147 hits, a number related and probably close to the one of unique visitors. The most visited pages (according to Geocities statistics) are:
- Romanian selection page: 10411 visits;
- English selection page: 4615 visits;
- site map: 1503 visits;
- list of Romanian coins: 2119 visits;
- History page in English: 924 visits;
- Heraldry page in English : 1246 visits.
Reckoning for the Second Year on the Web |
We strove ourselves, with our own head, through dire soreness and against afflicting hardships, to put down for all the lives of the coins struck in Romanian mints, how they unravelled from the beginning over to the later days, yet the face of each of them to have altogether here posted we strove, although time fit there is none except for worries and sigh now.
Dressing in the web attire, Romanian coins was young site, like two year of age it hath, when the year since Adam was 7712, the month of August in three days. So seeing, we went forth and bowed to our guests, as well as to our collaborators, accordingly to the long standing wont, greeting them on the threshold and nicely greeting everyone, and that only from the bossom's recesses were the heart is dwelling. Alike, seeing the second year, many ran with renewed joy to the site here said, and no one beshrewed it or kvetched of it at the Porte.
Yet this year the millet turned ripe few in amount, the hives alike were few, bread and wine made fruit but little, still at least some joy that the coin pages emerged satisfactorily, so satisfactorily that for some fear might have been to them company, great abundance, horse and horseman were hidden by their presence. And better even was possible, that labor to accomplish was still strong on hold, as far as the eye could see! One might reckon that Moldavia also gave birth to men!
Of as much as we understood of much and of many things lately unraveled, this year 100 new pages were made, and overall a sum of 168.372 was reached, and the statistics are as follows:
- Romanian selection page: 7391 visits;
- English selection page: 3304 visits;
- site map: 1172 visits;
- list of Romanian coins: 1521 visits;
- History page in English: 814 visits;
- Heraldry page in English : 1620 visits;
- 1 ban 1867 in Romanian: 1618 visits;
- 1 ban 1867 in English: 662 visits.
What still to come, henceforth we shall see. Written in the borough of Iași, next to the șadîrvan fountain of Grigore Ghica Vv.
Yes, Romanian coins is still the first as web site dedicated to the coins of Romania!

One Year on the Web: the Summary |
On 3rd of August 2003 Romanian coins has completed its first year of availability to Romanian coin lovers. At this happy moment we are to note that the nature entire joys along all the friends the site has rounded. Today apparently the springs run more and more boisterously, the flowers, that refrained to bloom during the last week, saving themselves for today, are fresher, fairer and more colorful than ever, and the butterflies fly undoubtedly possessed by an uncanny bliss. More than ever before, the leaf rustle resembles a pocketful of coins and the voices of children playing in front of the condominium chime like shiny silver coins one against the other. The Sun alone, just like a freshly minted golden miracle, sheds light in enthusiasm to all collectors beneath, among whom we humbly count ourselves.
At the top we ought to thanks all our collaborators. We received help in completing the site, help that came both as images and useful information, by the following Messrs (the order is set as we contacted them or were contacted by them):
Clark Smith
Moise Alexandru-Răzvan
Mark Lyons
Bogdan Cacuci
Laurențiu Grigorescu
Alex Lazarovici
Balazs Aldor
Bogdan Costin.
The number of unique pages that Romanian coins comprises exceeded 400.
Between August 3rd 2002 and August 2nd 2003, the Geocities statistics revealed the delivery of 52.727 pages bearing the already known Romanian coins logo! The main page gathered 2817 hits, a number related and probably close to the one of unique visitors. The most visited pages (according to Geocities statistics) are:
- Romanian Selection Page: 2318 hits,
- English Selection Page: 2579 hits,
- Site Map: 866 hits,
- Coin List: 786 hits,
- Romanian History page (English): 672 hits,
- Heraldry (main page, English): 754 hits,
- 1 ban 1867 (Romanian): 726 hits,
- 1 ban 1867 (English): 614 hits.
Around this first year the site grew continuously. Initially meant to English speakers (or readers at least) only, Romanian coins was quickly endowed with a Romanian version. The Italian version is still postponed but not for to long we hope. New coins have been added, the site gaining over 50 rare Romanian numismatic pieces. A lot of the golden, silver, medieval, modern time or contemporary treasures we posted can be admired and craved at on the web on Romanian coins only. The accompanying info we hold is also among the rarest and hard to obtain.
As result of toilless promoting efforts, Romanian coins leads the results retrieved by all the main web search engines as well as the lists of the main directories, both Romanian and foreign. We also have to thank to all (many of them all) that linked to our web site.

For the forseeable and forcastable future we pledge ourselves, with worker like rapture (Romanian "elan muncitoresc"), to continue our exploits so that in as little as possible the catalogue we hold to complete itself with those but a few pictures that mischievously escaped our grasp and to ramously go on with its growth. We will keep on providing correct info as we did up until now. We know we are the best and we will see to stay that way. Time permitting, it is predictable that the family of Romanian coins will increase with a new breath of a younger brother, id est Romanian banknotes. A good thought to all of you.
