Issuing date: 15th of October 2012

Mintage: 1000 sets

The 2012 mint set comprises the 1 ban, 5, 10 and 50 bani that entered circulation at July 1st 2005. All coins are struck in proof, (of maybe like-proof - on the set cardboard the medal is described as proof, but there is no statement about the coins).

It also comprises the anniversary coin of 50 bani dedicated to Aurel Vlaicu and his plane, in a proof variant with faces placed in medal style, with year 2012. This coin was initially issued in 2010 to celebrate the centenary of the first flight of Aurel Vlaicu. Three variants of 50 bani Vlaicu 2010 exist: one for circulation, of regular quality, one proof with faces placed in medal-style (inside the mint set from 2010) and one proof, with the faces placed in coin-style. So, 50 bani Vlaicu 2012 is an unexpected presence, as it celebrates 102 years since the first flight of the Romanian aviation pioneer!

The set also comprises a 50 bani coin with Mircea cel Bătrîn, with medal-style faces, in proof. The 50 bani 2011 Mircea cel Bătrîn was issued as business strike variant, of regular quality. So, 50 bani 2012 Mircea the Old celebrates 626 years since the event!

The set also comprises a 50 bani coin with Neagoe Basarab, with medal-style faces, in proof. The 50 bani 2012 Neagoe Basarab was issued as business strike variant, of regular quality.

The set medal is dedicated to the anniversary of 100 years since the construction works of the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant in Bucharest began. The building, in neo-Romanian style, is the creation of architect Nicolae Ghika-Budești. The foundation stone was layed in June 1912, but the construction itself lasted for almost 30 years. The southern wing was the first to be finished, in 1927.

An image of the building appears on a stamp from 1955, from stamp series "Museums in Bucharest". At that time the "V.I. Lenin - I.V. Stalin" museum of the party functioned there (the communist party, of course).

The cover of the set presents a picture of the Museum building.
